SLOW UP IN A NUTSHELL
What is Slow Up? Imagine an entire country slowing down for 25 hours. We’re outrunning ourselves and the planet. Slow Up is a gentle protest inviting people across Belgium to slow down together for 25 hours.
When? From 12pm on 24 October until 12pm on 25 October 2026, as the clocks go back for winter time.
Why? Slow Up brings together mental wellbeing, care and the limits of our planet. It’s a response to a culture of always wanting more, and a call for a liveable future.
How can I take part? You can take part at home, with friends or family, or at one of the many participating locations across Belgium. Museums, libraries, schools, cultural venues, sports clubs and many other organisations are joining Slow Up. Find out more or sign up at www.slowupforhumanity.be.

A weekend of slowing down. As a gentle act of protest.Imagine an entire country slowing down for 25 hours. No rush to get somewhere. No pressure to be productive. No need to buy, achieve or respond to one more thing.
We live in a society that constantly asks for more: more production, more consumption, more performance, more speed, more availability. Meanwhile, more and more people are reaching their limits, while the planet is under growing pressure too.
That’s why, on 24 and 25 October, Slow Up invites people across Belgium to step out of the rat race for 25 hours.Inspired by the legendary bed-ins of Yoko Ono and John Lennon, Slow Up turns slowing down into a gentle act of protest. You can take part from home, alone or with friends and family. Sleep in. Go for a walk. Read a book. Cook together. Put your phone away. Have a conversation. Or simply leave your calendar empty.
And across Belgium, dozens of organisations are creating their own Slow Up. Museums, libraries, schools, cultural venues and other organisations are opening their doors for special activities. From sleeping among the masterpieces at the KMSKA to spending the night at Wintercircus, or joining a special edition of Radio GAGA from a bed in Antwerp.
At its heart, Slow Up asks a simple question:How do we actually want to live?Because time, rest, care and connection are not luxuries. They are essential to our wellbeing and to a planet we can continue to live on.
Imagine a future where we have enough.
Enough time. Enough space. Enough care.
A liveable future is possible. If we want it.
Join Slow Up at home or at one of the participating locations.
