SLOW UP at KMSKA

Sleeping Among the Masters: How KMSKA Joins Slow Up for Humanity

What if, instead of rushing through a museum, you spent a night inside one?

As part of Slow Up for Humanity, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) is opening its doors to a very special experience that invites visitors to slow down, stay longer and look differently.

During the weekend of 24-25 October, fifty participants will have the chance to spend the night inside the museum. Surrounded by centuries of art, they will experience one of Belgium's most iconic cultural spaces after closing time, when the crowds have disappeared and silence takes over. More information about the giveaway and how to participate will be announced soon through the KMSKA newsletter and Slow Up social media channels.

But the museum's contribution goes beyond a unique overnight stay.

KMSKA will also host a Slow Art Tour, a guided experience centred around attentive looking and contemplation. Instead of moving quickly from artwork to artwork, participants are invited to spend more time with fewer pieces, discovering what becomes visible when we allow ourselves to slow down.

In addition, visitors will be able to experience Radio Bart, KMSKA's project dedicated to slowing down, silence and mindful observation. Through carefully curated audio stories and reflections, Radio Bart encourages a deeper encounter with art and with ourselves.

After museum hours, the building becomes a unique stage for Slow Up programming. Intimate concerts, poetry readings and other quiet gatherings will transform the museum into a place not only for looking at art, but also for collectively reflecting on rest, care and the pace of contemporary life.

In a campaign that asks what we might gain by slowing down, KMSKA reminds us that art itself can be a form of resistance against hurry. Sometimes the most radical thing we can do is simply stop, look and stay a little longer.
